Post Mortem: (Dec 2019)

I ran out of time to add a driver select, so you're stuck playing as Lewis. Sorry.

I streamed the creation of this game on Twitch at twitch.tv/astuteone. The first day's VOD didn't save, so I only have the second and third days.

Have fun!

Changlog: (Oct 2020)

At the recommendtation of friends, I picked Yogkart back up in January 2020 and continued working on it. I figured it would take a few months to clean everything up. Fast forward 10 months later and here we are. Everything was changed or improved. It would probably be easier to list everything that wasn't changed. I'll just post the highlights.

  • Major overhaul of the game's internal structure and systems.
  • Transitioned to Unity 2020.
  • Kart physics were completely rewritten, and now support jumping, sliding, and uneven terrain.
  • Added ground friction for sand traps or slippery surfaces.
  • Drivers and Karts now feature animations for turning, jumping, holding items, throwing, and getting hit.
  • Input system was transitioned from Unity 2018 Input Manager to Unity 2020 New Input System. Input now features gamepad support, dynamic input switching, split keyboard support, and drop in/drop out input devices.
  • AI was vastly improved, and can now be controlled by a single difficulty slider. AI will take smarter routes around the track, check sight cones for optimal throwing, and consider their item usage carefully.
  • UI recieved a facelift. Added more robust menu systems and better support for controller navigation.
  • Lots of UX improvements, such as listing player controls, tool tips, and item descriptions.
  • Added a driver select menu for picking which driver you would like to race as.
  • Added local multiplayer with split screen support.
  • Added a track select menu.
  • Added a new track, Sips City Circuit.
  • Remade the Grassy Circuit originally featured in the first release, which is now named Honeydew Raceway.
  • Added a credits screen.
  • Added a last lap, finish screen, and finish leaderboard.
  • Added a restart race button.
  • Overhauled the pause menu.
  • Options menu is now much more robust and features tabbed settings.
  • Added volume sliders for Master, Music, Sound Effects, and Engines.
  • Added game settings for camera FOV and distance.
  • Added help settings for showing on screen controls and item descriptions.
  • Added new items to the drop pool(Bees, Black Holes, Gold Crowns, Drills).
  • Existing items were remade as 3D objects.
  • Added a current item box to the HUD with helpful prompts telling you how each item is used.
  • Added cinematic intros to each track.
  • Added split audio system that separates audio into four channels for multiplayer 3D sound.
  • Performance improvements related to video memory and batching.
  • Tweaked sound settings and volume for various effects.
  • Added a pre-rendered background to the main screen.
  • Added pitch shifting for music during the last lap, pause menu, cinematic intro, and finish screens.

Known Issues: (Oct 2020)

  • (Major) Disconnecting and reconnecting a gamepad at any point will cause a corrupted buffer in the Unity New Input System, resulting in a soft crash for that player. I'm currently awaiting a fix from Unity Technologies.
  • (Minor) Projectiles will occasionally not bounce off walls, and instead disappear.
  • (Minor) Resolution dropdown list in the Options Menu has limited gamepad support. It will still work, you just won't be able to see your current selection.
  • (Minor) Resolution dropdown list in the Options Menu does not properly mask the selection, causes options to scroll above the dropdown.
  • (Minor) Boosting while not holding the accelerate button will cause the driver to continue driving forward, even after the boost ends.
  • (Minor) When restart race is selected, and a Black Hole is applied to a player, that Black Hole will be destroyed at the starting line, but will continue to draw players towards it during the countdown.
